Three Creative Ways to Check In on Community Agreements

In the first blog post, we described how to create a community agreement or shared vision for the year. Now is a fantastic time to check in on it. Here are three ways to revisit the vision:

Take Pictures: Ask students to take photos of things that are working (or not working). Share photos and make a plan to address two things that aren’t working.

Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down (or thumb-o-meter): Review the community agreement step by step. Ask students to pause at each step and non-verbally communicate if the norm is being followed. Choose 1 thing that can be improved and make a plan.

Looks Like/Sounds Like/Feels Like: In small groups, create sticky notes that describe what the norm looks like, sounds like and feels like. Use the sticky notes to annotate on the original agreement. Create a new draft that incorporates some of the clarifications describe by the small groups.
